Hampton Roads Ecumenical Lodgings and Provisions (H.E.L.P., Inc) has served the Hampton community and surrounding areas for decades. Member congregations, individuals, business partners, organizations and social clubs have assisted us in providing resources for thousands of our fellow neighbors that are in need, allowing them to enjoy lasting memories as they celebrated Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, and other special days. At this time of year, our hearts are filled with gratitude and thanksgiving to those H.E.L.P. member congregations and community partners that support the men, women, and children that turn to us in their times of homelessness and crisis. We are so thankful for the many random acts of kindness towards those less fortunate and also for the community wide coordinated effort to provide food baskets and gifts to those in need. H.E.L.P. is fortunate to partner with member congregations, the area wide churches, the City of Hampton, Hampton Department of Human Services, the Salvation Army, and the YMCA in these collective endeavors. With all of these partners working together, we are able to ensure that needy families get holiday food baskets and gifts without the risk of some families receiving more than their share. This partnership has proven invaluable in spreading our resources and those of our partners just a little further. A wonderful example of our partnership is a recent donation made by he Hampton Sheriff's Office. Members of the Sheriff's Office showed their generous support by donating 75 pairs of sneakers to H.E.L.P. for those in need. They also participated in the First Annual H.E.L.P. Walkathon and literally walked the walk as eight deputies and staffers kept pace on the 3 mile course while raising $770. "Each of us could find ourselves in a dire need for food and shelter," said Sheriff B. J. Roberts. "It's a true blessing to be able to contribute to H.E.L.P and I applaud my staff for their efforts." H.E.L.P. salutes the men and women of the Hampton Sheriff's Office for their efforts and we are thankful to Sheriff B. J. Roberts for his years of support and generosity to the community and those in need.

Roberts On Saturday, November 5, numerous Lion's Clubs will come together and provide vision, hearing, blood pressure and diabetic screenings to those in need on their Mobile Sight and Hearing Unit. This effort is in partnership with the H.E.L.P. Medical Clinic and the screenings will be held from 9 AM - 12 Noon at First Presbyterian Church, 514 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton. On Saturday, November 19 the X-Riders will be providing a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings to residents living at the H.E.L.P. House Family Shelter and Transitional Housing. The meal will be served by the X-Riders, a local community group that will be partnering with St. Mark's United Methodist Church and utilizing their Family Life Center. One of our member congregations is not utilizing their Parish House presently. The congregation has a vision to use the property to serve homeless women and families. H.E.L.P. was invited to tour the property to assist in developing plans for utilization to present to the congregation so that their vision becomes a reality. How many other homes are available to serve those in need? Partnerships, partnerships, partnerships. Together we are making a difference with our collective resources to improve the lives of those experiencing a crisis. These acts of service express the true meaning of "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR". Am I my brother's or sister's keeper? We thank you for caring and sharing. Rev. Charles E. Cheek and Charlotte C. Dillow
