A few days before Christmas, our community lost a man who dedicated his life to making a difference. William Alfred “Al” Smith, a long-time resident of Hampton, spent over 37 years in the practice of law, defending and arguing on behalf of laws which entitle every person to their civil rights and fair treatment under the law.

The headquarters of the Virginia State Federation of C.W.C. (Colored Women’s Clubs) sits in the heart of Hampton, in the middle of the historic Pasture Point neighborhood at 123 East Pembroke Avenue. Like much of Hampton, this house is steeped in important history that has largely been untold.

There are a lot of Hampton holiday traditions Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 November 2011 13:43 | Written by Molly Joseph Ward
There are a lot of Hampton holiday parade traditions – we have the Coliseum Central Parade, the Hampton Lighted Boat Parade and the Hampton Holly Days Parade – each really wonderful and all relatively close together.

The Coliseum Central Parade was Saturday, November 19 and the participants and those along the route enjoyed a great show and beautiful weather.

There is still time to enjoy our two evening parades: the Lighted Boat Parade is on Saturday, December 3 and begins with the tree lighting downtown at 6:45 p.m. and the parade at 7:15 p.m. The Holly Days Parade is on Saturday, December 10 and begins at 7 p.m. We hope you and your family will join us.
