An exciting new chapter in the history of Fort Monroe unfolded this week as Glenn Oder and the staff of the Fort Monroe Authority welcomed a team from Sasaki, the planning and urban design firm that will produce the fort’s master plan.

A local Sasaki project - College of William and Mary residence halls

Sasaki has an impressive portfolio that includes the Lincoln Memorial Landscape and Reflecting Pool, the Bejing Olympic Green and numerous projects on college and university campuses, including Harvard, Johns Hopkins and William and Mary. You can check out their portfolio on their website at www.sasaki.com.

Representatives from the city visited with one of the planners on Thursday and discussed some broad goals and objectives of the city related to the preservation and conservation of the property.  The firm is clearly impressed with both the natural beauty and history of Fort Monroe.

This planning process is a crucial next step in the future and care of Fort Monroe.
